She is unique in every respect. A female drummer, the first to have ever won a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, the only female drummer with so many awards and Grammy nominations and one of the few such artists that has worked with some of the greatest musical luminaries over the course of her 25-year career, such as Herbie,WayneShorter, StanGetz, AlJarreau, Cassandra Wilson, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater.
The Grammy-winning drummer, composer and bandleader Terri Lyne Carrington was born in 1965 in Medford, Massachusetts. She recently returned to her birthplace, where she was appointed a professor at the Berklee College of Music.
Her collaborations with great artists, including a special song commissioned by the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games and the production of her Grammy-nominated album 'That Day', placed her at the top of the charts for many months. Special examples of her work include her collaboration with Herbie Hancock's Grammy-winning album 'Gershwin's World', where she performed alongside Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder.
Carrington released her album 'The Mosaic Project'in July 2011. This was her fifth overall album and her first on Concord Jazz. The legendary album, which won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, features numerous voices that created a multifaceted whole that was much more than sum of its parts. It consisted of 14 songs featuring some of the most acclaimed female jazz artists of the last decades. On 5 February 2013, Carrington released 'Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue', her highly anticipated homage to Duke Ellington, Charles Mingusand Max Roach, that coincided with the 50th anniversary of the 1963 release of the legendary album 'MoneyJungle'. The new recording featured Gerald Clayton and Christian Mc Bride, as well as guest appearances by Clark Terry, Lizz Wright, Herbie Hancock and others.
At Sani Hill, Carrington will present the continuation of her work under the title 'The Mosaic Project 2', an all-female septet with the unique voice of the renowned Lizz Wright on vocal duties.
